17th June // Climbing on Conwy Mountain
Conwy Mountain // N 53.28, W -3.86
Having slowly built my confidence up in the indoor climbing gym, I jumped on my first opportunity to taste real rock.
Sychnant Pass is one of those underrated parts of North Wales, and when I lived in Llandudno it was my favourite and closest port of call for a sunny day out, walking amongst the heather, hoping that on the off chance I would see the Carneddau Ponies.
On this particular outing this was not the case, but foxgloves stood proud amongst the bracken as I waded through the green towards the crag.
Foxgloves, Pennywort and a curious sheep
As the golden glow of the clouds faded my enthusiasm turned slightly grey, but pushing through - and with some encouragement - I completed my first outdoor climb since I was a child. What was apparently obvious to me as I side stepped and slid my way up the rock face (and if you’ve been climbing with me you’ll surely agree) I need some new shoes.
