11th May // Moments of Stillness

Dinas Dinlle // N53.093 W-4.341

The beauty of my photography post travelling has been the ability to arrive to an old location with new pair of eyes. Dinas Dinlle more often than not for me was a place to stop off on my way to or from the Llŷn Peninsula to watch the sunset. Never before had I decided to stop and actually look beneath my feet, or wait for the tide to retreat.

Having been left by my friends I had a few hours to kill before sunset, so I journeyed up and down the beach as the tide became lower, wading in the shallow brackish pools and examining the flower species I observed, all new to me.

Swathes of Thrift, Sea Campion and Birds-foot trefoil carpeted the embankments and pebbles out of reach of the ocean giving bursts of colour to the otherwise grey and beige-ness of the barren landscape.

And as so happens every evening, the sun began its departure from the sky, washing it in mellow brushstrokes of golds and oranges, reflected in the swallow pools as I crouched in awe of the glass-like reflections, doing my best to be still to not create but the smallest of ripples.

Perhaps its worth adding a footnote that this evening was another attempt to capture the Aurora, though unsuccessfully, my night time walk up to Llyn Llywelyn was spared the disappointment by my bewilderment of just how many people had decided to hike up Yr Wyddfa to watch the Aurora - until I realised these were all competitors in the Utra Trail Snowdonia event.
