20th March // Lakeside Walk

Llyn Dinas // N53.0457 W-4.021

Parked up above Llyn Gwynant for the night, the morning heat was dry, with the pre-spring landscape looking more akin to Africa than North Wales. From here we left the dry behind and took the bus down towards Nantmor to start out thru hike for the day.

The riverside walk towards Beddgelert must be one of the finest in North Wales, with the path going through a Celtic Rainforest and then following a carved out path alongside the river.

From here we continued along, going back on ourselves to head to the summit of Dinas Emrys, an old Roman Hillfort which as long since been lost be time. The winding path took us under the cover of sessile oaks, still without leaves from the Winter.

The path which I thought would take us down towards Llyn Dinas was unfortunately a private road, so we had to double back on ourselves. But we ran into another hiker, who gave us a great suggestion for somewhere to go swim.

When we got to Llyn Dinas the sunlight was at that perfect level where everything was golden, which paired beautifully with the orange grasses.

We made the decision to take the road once we got the Llyn Gwynant as the detour we had to make earlier has stripped us of some time, and the route alongside the North-West side of the lake would have been too sketchy to do in the dark.

Luckily we bumped into a wonderful New Zealand couple who gave us a lift back to the van. We couldn’t have lucked out any more!
