23th March // Birds and Rocks
Cemlyn // N53.408 W-4.505

My friend and old housemate Iona came to visit for the weekend and wanted to see some birds, so we headed for the best place in North Wales for that - Anglesey.
She has received a tip that there was an Arctic Turn colony at Cemlyn Bay at the north tip of the Island, so off we went.

Cemlyn Bay is an interesting place with a fortified compound of sorts and derelict buildings within its outer walls. It is also a shingle barrier beach with long strip of beach forming a barrier for the lagoon behind.
It turned out (pun intended) that the Turn colony wasn’t actually nesting yet at this time of year, so we pivoted and I took my friends to somewhere nearby which I had recently visited - Cemaes Bay.

Having already visited Cemaes a few weeks earlier by myself I knew all the specific spots to highlight the interesting geology. Perhaps one of my favourite things to do is act like a tour guide, and this time was no different.

Our walk also consisted of a lot of looking for interesting looking rocks, and again I found the rockpools fascinating with how gross and murky they were with the seaweed and I assume some sort of algal bloom.

I’ve been really enjoying getting to share these places with friends, as it’s one thing to go along and experience discovery of a place and it’s another to get to share that with someone else.
Seeing the world through someone else’s eyes for the first time gives you a whole new sense of enjoyment,
